Queens is known for Citi Field, Rockaway Beach and LL Cool J, but free horseback riding lessons? Not sure we’ve heard that one before!
Over the weekend, a post went live on Instagram about someone getting a free horseback riding lesson in the middle of Queens’ streets.
According to the video, a travel influencer came across an owner and their horse in the middle of Queens. She asked the owner permission to ride the horse, and the owner said yes.
As noted by the other accounts on the post, the horse is personally owned and does not belong to an official stable or commercial business. The influencer specified in the comments that the horse owner has over 10 acres of land with stables and three horses.
Queens isn’t the only place you might run into a horse in NYC. The Mounted Unit, which is part of Special Operations Bureau of the New York City Police Department, can still be seen patrolling the city via horse. Their purpose is to deter crime, typically pertaining to crowd control at events including demonstrations, protests, concerts, sporting events, and parades in the city.
But to answer the overarching question, no, free horse riding lessons are not being offering in the middle of Queens’ streets. The experience seemed to be a one time situation.
