Haven’t had eggs in a month because you’re still not willing to drop $15 on a dozen? We hear you! And so does FarmerJawn Agriculture, a 128-acre working farm, giving away free eggs in NYC this weekend to improve agriculture accessibility.
If you were unaware why eggs have gotten so expensive lately, it primarily has to do with the spike in bird flu this season. Bird flu, otherwise known as avian flu, is a virus spread amongst birds.
Earlier this year, Governor Kathy Hochul ordered all NYC live bird markets to shut down to be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after the virus was detected in Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx. As a result of this rise in bird flu, egg prices have astronomically increased in price.
FarmerJawn will be working in collaboration with Prince Abou’s Butchery and Triple J Farm to giveaway 100 dozen eggs for free at each location (300 dozen total in NYC).
