Small-town New Yorker turned global chef Anne Burrell passed away on Tuesday, June 17th in Brooklyn. She was 55 years old.
“Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered,” her family said in a statement, according to [trackLink link_url="https://pagesix.com/2025/06/17/celebrity-news/food-network-chef-anne-burrell-dead-at-55/"]People[/trackLink]. “Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.”
The fierce blonde was known for her fiery dishes and hairstyle, as well as her love for New York City. She made a name for herself on The Food Network, where she starred in Worst Cooks in America and Secrets of a Restaurant Chef.
“Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent – teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring,” a statement from the network read, according to Page Six. “Our thoughts are with Anne’s family, friends and fans during this time of tremendous loss.”
She also wrote Cook Like a Rockstar and Owning Your Kitchen. Anne received training at The Culinary Institute of American and the Italian Culinary Institute for Foreigners. While cooking in NYC, she worked at Felidia under Lidia Bastianich and Savoy in Soho — popular NYC restaurants that need no introduction.
Her roots are from Cazenovia, New York, and her career took her all over, but her love for NYC reigned supreme. It was not uncommon to see her on Instagram at New York Rangers games or bumping into local NYC legends, like the Brooklyn Green Lady. (See below.)
“I ran into @greenladyofbrooklyn in my neighborhood today!! I’m not going to lie- I have been keeping an eye out for her. I may or may not have followed her down the street for a minute. She is just lovely!!!” the chef wrote on Instagram.
She is survived by her husband Stuart Claxton, his son Javier, as well as her mother, Marlene, sister, Jane, brother, Ben, and her three children Isabella, Amelia and Nicolas.
This is a developing story.
