For the first time in New York City’s history, Brooklyn will host a designated festival celebrating Jamaican culture. The inaugural Jamaica Rising Day Parade is officially set for Saturday, August 8, 2026.
The streets will transform into a vibrant display of black, green, and gold. The event is completely free and open to the public.
What to expect at the celebration
Expected to draw thousands, the parade will run under the theme “Jamaica Rising: One People. One Legacy. One Future.” This high-energy community celebration is designed to unite the Jamaican diaspora and build excitement toward Jamaica’s 65th Anniversary of Independence in 2027.
The road march will feature three massive signature floats representing Jamaica’s historic counties. You can look forward to seeing:
- Cornwall (Westival)
- Middlesex (MidJam)
- Surrey (Surreal)
These floats will be accompanied by alumni associations, cultural groups, and professional networks. It will truly be a moving showcase of Jamaican identity across all generations.
The parade route and block party details
The celebration will kick off at 11 a.m. at the intersection of Flatbush Avenue and Church Avenue—an area proudly known as Bob Marley Boulevard.
The parade will proceed north along Flatbush Avenue. It runs right through the heart of Brooklyn, which is home to one of the largest Jamaican communities outside of the island itself.
The march will conclude with a major street festival at Dr. Ronald McNair Park, located at Classon Avenue and Eastern Parkway. The post-parade block party will feature:
- Live music and local DJs keeping the energy high.
- Vendors offering traditional Jamaican food and culinary favorites.
- Cultural showcases and community entertainment reflecting the spirit of the island.

This parade is much more than just a party. Organizers have built the event on four core pillars: cultural preservation, global education, community empowerment, and economic development.
