As threats of a nor’easter loom over the east coast on Sunday, October 12th, the FAA has grounded and delayed flights at major airports, including JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark Liberty International Airport.

The FAA grounds and delays flights as the nor’easter approaches
At the time of publication, 2pm on the 12th, the FAA has issued the following advisories:
- Newark: Departures to Newark International are delayed avg. 80 mins. due to low ceilings; ground delay 1pm EDT to 11:59pm EDT
- JFK: Departures to John F Kennedy International are delayed avg. 102 mins. due to low ceilings; ground delay 1pm EDT to 11:59pm EDT
- LGA: Departures to La Guardia are delayed avg. 106 mins. due to low ceilings; 12pm EDT on Oct 12th to 1:59 a.m. EDT on Oct 13th
According to CNN, the east coast is expected to experience “coastal flooding, drenching rain, and strong winds” up to nearly 50 miles per hour. The NYC Emergency Management released the following warning via X (formerly Twitter):
“We expect there to be citywide minor coastal flooding, with the possibility of moderate coastal flooding as a result of high winds. If you live in a coastal community, now is the time to review your family plan, gather supplies, and be ready to act if necessary.”
