It’s the end of an era–on Monday, April 22nd, clothing store Express filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and, as a result, it’ll be closing 95 of its retail stores across the US, including 20+ locations in the Tri-State area.
According to a press release WHP Global and other participants had sent it a “non-binding” letter of intent to possibly buy a majority of the Company’s retail stores and operations.
Stewart Glendinning, Chief Executive Officer, stated:
We are taking an important step that will strengthen our financial position and enable Express to continue advancing our business initiatives. WHP has been a strong partner to the Company since 2023, and the proposed transaction will provide us additional financial resources, better position the business for profitable growth and maximize value for our stakeholders.

Closing sales at the effected stores began on Tuesday, April 23rd, 2024.
