Extravagant mansions, guided buildings, extravagant costumes, jewelry, and furniture; NYC’s Guilded age at the turn of the century is yours to explore thanks to the The Museum of the City of New York.
At the turn of the century (19th and early 20th centuries) NYC saw a huge influx of wealth. Millionaires like Jay Gould, Andrew Carnegie and Cornelius Vanderbilt seemed to turn Manhattan into their personal project. Fifth ave became a hive of palatial mansions which lead to high-end stores and eventually birthed the renowned street as we know it today.
The Museum of the City of New York are capitalizing on the success of their “Gilded New York” by introducing a new app called “A Walk Through Gilded New York.” Users travel back in time and tour historic sites like the home of J.P. Morgan, Carnegie Hall and the Metropolitan Opera as they were over 100 years ago.
While using the app you may recognize a familiar voice, it’s none other than the Mr Robot’s FBI agent Dominique DiPierro, the daughter of acclaimed actress Meryl Streep, Grace Gummer.
