Healthy and nutritious food that’s both accessible and affordable for everyone is coming to Queens next week, thanks to Everytable.
Everytable is a food company that fights for food justice and equality by providing healthy meals to those who need it at an incredibly low cost. Founded in 2016 in Los Angeles, Everytable has sold more than 15 million meals to date, and they also have a Pay It Forward program which allows guests to purchase meals for those in need.
Most meals are $6-$9 and are all ready-to-eat. So while food seems to increase everywhere else, mostly because of inflation, Everytable’s meals stay affordable.
And since Queens is one of New York’s most culturally diverse communities facing high levels of food insecurity, Everytable will open its ninth storefront in NY and its first-ever in Queens in Astoria next week!
Sam Polk, a former hedge fund trader, originally founded a nonprofit which he named Feast back in 2013 to address food-related health problems in South LA. The average income here is roughly $13,000/year, drastically reducing life expectancy compared to those in more affluent areas due to high rates of diseases like obesity and diabetes.
Polk realized that healthy eating could make a difference, and he began helping people make healthy choices through nutrition education, cooking classes, free produce, and support groups. He then began selling nutritious food in “food deserts,” such as South LA, to give people access to nutritious food at prices competitive with fast food.
Thus, Everytable was born.
The company makes it easy to grab a quick, ready-to-eat meal, such as chef-crafted bowls, wraps, salads, and a newly expanded breakfast program. They also offer a wide variety of cold-pressed juices, carefully curated beverages, snacks, and desserts.
The new Astoria location will also serve freshly brewed coffee and espresso from Crenshaw Coffee, an LA-based, Black-owned business that sources coffee directly from farms in Ethiopia.
The first Everytable in Queens will open next Friday, March 31st. Beginning at 11 a.m., the first 200 guests to head to the grand opening event will receive a free meal while supplies last. Plus, the grand opening event will also feature a DJ and samples from local vendors.
