Essex Street Market has established its reputation as the most historic public market in NYC. Talk about its big move to new development, Essex Crossing, has been going on for some time and now it looks like the opening date has been set for about two weeks from today.
For all the loyal customers and locals in the area who have gotten used to the market being at 20 Essex St, you’ll be delighted to hear that the move is taking place just down the road a mere 2 minute walk away. Located on the ground floor of Essex Crossing; one of the larger projects in the Lower East Side, this new modern space is a refreshing change to welcome back existing vendors and entice new vendors (11 to be exact) to join the family.
Essex Street Market is known for their wide range of high quality, gourmet products such as cheese, meat, fresh fish and dine-in restaurants. What’s kept this place running since its opening in 1940, is the sense of community that keeps the charm alive. Supporting all the Mom & Pop shops out there, the merchants genuinely care about their customers and the relationships you bond with them can’t be replicated in corporately owned grocery stores.
