The Empire State Building has gone back to its “regularly scheduled” tower lights, but tonight it will return to the display that lit up nights during the apex of the pandemic: the red “heartbeat of America.”
It joins tonight’s nation-wide tribute to COVID-19 victims — now numbering over 400,000 in the U.S. — with President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris speaking from the Lincoln Memorial the night before their inauguration.
The landmark building will light in red from sunset until 2 a.m. It joins hundreds of other landmarks and buildings across the country lighting in red in memorium, including Seattle’s Space Needle and others.
At 9 p.m. there will be the return of the music-to-light show set to the Alicia Key’s hit “Empire State of Mind.”
You can synch the light show by listening to Z100 and iHeartRadio.
