Though the Empire State Building has been lit in its classic white since the coronavirus pandemic hit NYC, that’s about to change.
The building managers just shared that they have a new plan for lighting up the tower every evening, one that pays respects to the entire country as well as all of the medical workers fighting coronavirus every single day.
“We’ll never stop shining for you,” they wrote on social media.
“Starting tonight [March 30] through the COVID-19 battle, our signature white lights will be replaced by the heartbeat of America with a white and red siren in the mast for heroic emergency workers on the front line of the fight.”
This is in addition to the brand music-to-light show that takes place every night at 9pm, synched to “Empire State of Mind.” They synch it with Z100 and iHeartRadio. After the 9pm Alicia Keys light show, lights go dark for five minutes, “honoring those who’ve lost their lives and those who grieve them.”
