LA’s Eggslut chef, Alvin Cailan, is finally opening a full service restaurant in NYC.
After a year of putting on various pop-ups around the city, Cailan will be opening his restaurant The Usual this month in the Nolitan Hotel.
According to the Times, the restaurant will focus on “the food we all crave,” like burgers, flatbreads, fried chicken, pasta with seasonal vegetables, a Cheddar-chive biscuit, and chocolate cake. Offering wines from over 150 winemakers, the restaurant’s sommelier and beverage director will be his brother, Anthony.
Cailian told the Times that he prefers having a restaurant in New York because “New York restaurants are neighborhood places, not destinations like in L.A.”
The Usual’s soft opening will take place from June 15 through the end of the month, with their official opening being on July 1.
