Ed Sheeran was spotted singing with 62-year old NYC icon and former America’s Got Talent contestant, Mike Yung, in the subway earlier this week. The English singer-songwriter surprised Yung while he was doing a rendition of Sheeran’s newest single off his upcoming Subtract album, “Eyes Closed.”
Sheeran joined in on vocals as the duo harmonized for passersby in the Church Avenue station in Flatbush, Brooklyn. The interaction was posted to TikTok and met with an outcry of love and support.
Sheeran was in NYC to perform a sold-out show at Kings Theatre on Monday, April 10th. According to NBC, the entire subway occurrence was pure coincidence! The impromptu duet was simply kismet.
Yung shared his gratitude to Instagram with a post of him and Sheeran locking hands. From what you can gather of the post, the star even gifted Yung a pair of tickets to his Brooklyn concert.
Sheeran was also spotted listening to an eager fan singing to him, skateboard in hand, the same single he and Yung had performed together.
The official release of Division, Sheeran’s newest album, is on Friday, May 5th. According to the singer’s Instagram, he had been working on the album for a decade.
After shedding light on his struggles over the past few years, Sheeran shared that “As an artist I didn’t feel like I could credibly put a body of work into the world that didn’t accurately represent where I am and how I need to express myself at this point in my life. This album is purely that. It’s opening the trapdoor into my soul. For the first time, I’m not trying to craft an album people will like, I’m merely putting something out that’s honest and true to where I am in my adult life.”
