According to the United States Geological Survey, an earthquake rattled New Yorkers in Upstate yesterday morning. The 2.1 magnitude quake specifically shook Elizabethtown, New York in the Adirondacks.
The United States Geological Survey received 33 responses admitting they felt the tremor.
The Upstate earthquake comes just around a month after New Jersey’s 2.9 magnitude earthquake and nearly two months after NYC’s 4.8 magnitude earthquake.
Apparently, earthquakes aren’t uncommon in the Adirondacks with fault lines running throughout the region. In the past 40 years, the Adirondacks have experienced two earthquakes with a magnitude of 5.0 or greater.
As of the beginning of the month, regions around NYC have already experience 30+ aftershocks following the initial 4.8 earthquake in the beginning of April. Learn more about the Upstate earthquake here.
