There are few places on earth that inspire that magical kind of Christmas spirit like New York… and we could all use a stiff shot of holiday spirit right now, right? New York is about to become lovingly embellished in light and tinsel, so let’s put the post-election rhetoric behind us for a second and look the Christmas-tree lighting ceremonies happening in the city in the coming months.
Park Slope Fifth Avenue

The first on the list id the Park Slope Fifth Avenue BID ceremony. While the little-ones enjoy photos with Santa and puppeteers, the adults can occupy themselves with live music and seasonal treats .
Winter’s Eve at Lincoln Center

The Lincoln Square Business Improvement District will host it’s Seventeenth Annual Winter’s Eve at Lincoln Square! Join legendary artists, up-and-coming musicians, dancers, street performers and more as they welcome the holiday season and light up the Upper West Side with an evening of music, food, and Christmas cheer.
Seaport District
- Where – 19 Fulton St
- When – November 29, 6:30–7:30 pm
Expect with live music and photos with Santa at the 33rd annual tree lighting ceremony. Seeing this 60-foot tree illuminated in the name of the season is sure to rekindle that Christmas feeling.
Rockefeller Center
- Where – Rockefeller Plaza between W 48th and 51st Sts
- When – November 30, 7–9 pm
The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree is a world-wide symbol of the holiday season… need we say more? The 2016 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree will be lit for the first time on Wednesday, November 30, with live performances from 7–9pm, at Rockefeller Plaza.
Bank of American Winter Village at Bryant Park
- Where – Bryant Park, Sixth Ave between 40th and 42nd Sts
- When – December 2 , 6 pm
The village has designs on making this years event the one best ever. You’ll be whisked into a winter wonderland at their theatrical ice-skating show with performances by Johnny Weir, Meryl Davis and Charlie White and more.
Fort Hamilton
- Where – 101st St and Fort Hamilton Pkwy
- When – December 2 , 4–9 pm
Go and enjoy this exclusive and diverse holiday experience at the military base, explore unique gifts created by local artisans and artists, traditional food, carousel, Santa and check while you’re in the area you’ll be able to check out the infamous Dyker Heights Christmas Lights.
Washington Square Park

The Rob Susman Brass Quartet will lead children and grown-ups alike in singing holiday songs… feel the tugging on those heartstrings! Santa Claus himself usually appears to lead the children in the countdown to the lights. This 91-year-old tradition is not to be missed!
Holiday on the Hudson
- Where – 125th Street and Marginal Street in West Harlem Piers
- When – December 10, 4:30 pm–6:30 pm
Celebrate the season with live music performed by Barnard Bacchantae, dancing with the Harlem Swing Dance Society, and hot chocolate… don’t forget to bring a reusable mug!
