It’s official! After months of speculation, Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon has announced her candidacy for the New York State gubernatorial race.
On Monday, March 19th, Cynthia Nixon, previously known as Miranda Hobbs on HBO’s “Sex and the City”, announced that she will indeed be running against incumbent governor Cuomo in the democratic primary for the gubernatorial position this September.
After months of speculation, Nixon announced on Twitter that she will be running for governor, emotionally detailing her reasoning behind the decision. The 51 year old, openly gay mother of three is invested in New York. She states,
“New York is my home, I’ve never lived anywhere else… New York is where I was raised and where I’m raising my kids… Our leaders are letting us down, we are now the most unequal state in the entire country with both incredible wealth and extreme poverty…I love New York, I’ve never wanted to live anywhere else but something has got to change. We want our government to work again.”
