“Chronicles of Guns in America,” a collaborative project by French artist JR and Time Magazine is now on view in the Bowery. In tandem with the mural exhibition, a special issue of Time will be published on November 5, 2018 and is set to explore a wide range of views regarding gun ownership and violence in the United States.
According to Pace Gallery, TIME and JR traveled to three U.S. cities which are profoundly affected by guns—Dallas, St. Louis and Washington, D.C.—to invite people to share their views, describe their experiences and search for common ground. Participants are featured both on the mural in New York City as well as in the interactive “Guns in America” expose on Time Magazine’s website.
Just 24 hours after the mural was completed, a giant red “11” was added to the piece in honor of the 11 victims of the Pittsburgh synagogue massacre. Flowers are also being left at the site as people begin to pay tribute.
The mural will be up for a few more weeks so make sure to get down there to see it for yourself.
