Industry City’s campus-wide art initiative, The Collision Project just announced two new installations coming to the 6 million-square-foot complex.
Beginning Friday, January 28th, visitors will be able to catch “The Pool” by Jen Lewin lighting up Industry City, and soon after 5 additional permanent sculptures by CHIAOZZA. We’ve seen other work from Jen Lewin last March in Domino Park, and The Pool is sure to just as dazzling.
More than 100 concentric circular pads will take over Industry City in a fabulously interactive installation.
Thanks to mesh-network technology and custom code, each platform responds to touch —”encouraging participation in an ever-changing composition.” Visitors are invited to jump, dance, walk, and play with the piece to trigger “swirling effects of light and color,” inspired by Australian tidal pools.
“We are elated to welcome The Pool and additional sculptures by CHIAOZZA to our creative campus as part of Industry City’s commitment to supporting the artist and design community. These Brooklyn-based artists are creating accessible and interactive art that will be consumed by designers, artists, local families and business owners. The power of art to creatively connect our communities is key to The Collision Project and these two installations embody that commitment,” said Cristal Rivera, Director of Marketing and Community Engagement in a statement.
The installation has already traveled to more than 20 countries including Abu Dhabi, Beijing, Hong Kong, Istanbul, Jerusalem, Lisbon, Los Angeles, Mexico City, New York City, Prague, Shanghai, Sydney, and Taipei.
The permanent sculptures by CHIAOZZA will arrive in Brooklyn on February 14th to be displayed in Courtyard 1/2 of the creative campus. This installation was “designed to be suggestive of play without being directive, resulting in open-ended possibilities for interaction between the viewers and the artwork.”
Both works are an exciting addition to Industry City and a great way for New Yorkers to support local artists.
