Strand Book Store recently celebrated their 95th anniversary as the largest independent book store in NYC on June 25, however they’re the ones giving us the present!
For the first time since opening in 1927, the Strand flagship store near Union Square has welcomed Brooklyn Roasting Company to make a new home in the book store and invite NYers to enjoy a fresh cup of coffee while getting lost in the stacks.
“Bringing coffee to our customers has been a long-time dream for The Strand,” stated Laura Ravo, Strand Books, COO in a press release. “Brooklyn Roasting Company shares many of the Strand’s principles. They deliver a quality product…while giving back through conscientious charitable contributions to further the arts, literature and music in our city.”
Recently voted as the 2022 Best Overall Fair-Trade Coffee by TreeHugger, the new in-house coffee shop will feature items perfect for any season, from iced blueberry lemon espresso spritzers for the warmer months to hot coffee, chais, and more in the colder months. The counter offers limited seating for those wishing to savor their coffee break. However, drinks can be served to-go as well. They will also offer a selection of pastries.
Jim Munson, Brooklyn Roasting Company’s Founder and CEO, states, “I’ve enjoyed drinking coffee and reading books for most of my life. It only makes sense to embrace a partnership between the coffee company I’ve built and my favorite New York City independent bookseller, the Strand.”
Strand Book Store’s flagship Union Square location is located at 828 Broadway at 12th Street. It’s open daily 10a.m. – 8p.m.
