For those who weren’t already aware, East Village Cheese closed up shop for good a few weeks ago. A sad day seeing yet another neighborhood staple close down.
With nearly 100 cheese varieties sold at this East Village institution, the neighborhood is definitely taking notice of the shop now if they hadn’t before. According to NBC New York, the owners left all the cheese exactly where it was when they closed up. As it turns out, the power was cut off when the shop was closed and while it may be cold outside, the cheese is going bad inside and really stinking up the area around it. (As if cheeses weren’t stinky enough already.)
Nearly three weeks later, and the awful stench is still haunting those who work and live in the area.
