Following record-high ridership in 2023, the NYC DOT announced they’d be expanding and improving the Citi Bike service significantly by the end of 2024, and now it seems we’ll be paying for it.
Beginning January 4th 2024, annual membership pricing will increase to $219.99 per year, compared to the price of $205 that it’s at now.
Citi Bike members will receive 60 free e-bike minutes upon every annual renewal, and current members will also receive a prorated number of minutes until their membership renews.
When it comes to non-member single-trips, it will now cost $4.79 to unlock a bike and ride it for 30 minutes, 30 cents more than its current price of $4.49. Riding a bike, both classic and e-bike, for longer than 30 minutes will cost 30 cents per minute, a 15% increase from the current price of 26 cents per minute.
For members, single trips will cost 20 cents per minute when going beyond the included time of 45 minutes, a 17% increase from the current price of 17 cents per minute.
The Citi Bike fare increase follows a decision of the company and the city to expand the service. After the completion of the expansion, Citi Bike will have deployed more than 40,000 bikes.
