Part art installation, part performance, this colorful dance experience is happening now at the Park Avenue Armory.
“The Let Go,” is a new performance piece which invites community members to participate in a shared, dance-based cathartic experience and “let go” of stress and frustrations through a creative experience. The Armory has been transformed into a colorful dance-hall with two 40ft tall curtains and shimmering Mylar streamers.
For a bit of context, the Armory’s summer art program has been setting the stage for a decade of installations and performances. This summer, Chicago based artist Nick Cave is taking over the space. Dancers and live music will invite participants to a release through this multi-sensory experience.
The installation features two distinct programs. The first, which takes place during the day invites visitors to take part in movement games and line dances with professional dancers as leaders.
In contrast, the night program showcases a group of psychedelic, genderless dancers hidden in colorful costumes as they give a contemporary dance performance. The idea is to combine both dance and visual art into one experience.
This contemporary art experience is on until July 1 and tickets range from $17-$35. You can check out more information on the Armory website.
