Central Park’s beloved Wollman Rink is officially reopening this Sunday, October 26, marking the start of its 75th anniversary ice skating season — and the celebration begins with two free community days and a Guinness World Record attempt later this season.
After months of anticipation, the rink is bringing back all the festive magic that makes winter in New York so special—think: skyline views, live entertainment, and the return of one of the city’s most iconic holiday traditions.
A New York Winter Tradition Returns
For generations, skating at Wollman Rink has been a defining NYC winter experience. When Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux designed Central Park in the 19th century, they imagined ice skating as part of its landscape, designating The Lake as a “skating pond” long before the park was completed in the 1870s.
Since opening in 1950, Wollman Rink has hosted everything from roller discos to music festivals, but its frozen season remains the most magical time of year. The 2025–26 season promises to bring that charm back in full force, with live music, themed nights, and special events planned through the holidays.
Free Community Days & Opening Weekend Schedule
To celebrate the milestone, Sunday, October 26 and Monday, October 27 will be Community Days, offering free admission to all visitors.
🎟️ Free Community Tickets will be available starting today, Thursday, October 23rd, at 5 pm on wollmanrinknyc.com, or directly at the rink’s Box Office in Central Park. If you’ve already purchased tickets for either of those days, don’t worry—Wollman Rink will contact you for a refund or ticket exchange.

While the Guinness World Record attempt for the “World’s Largest Ice Skating Lesson” has been postponed, it will still take place later this season. The official date will be announced soon, but skaters are encouraged to stay tuned and start practicing their moves.
