Head to a lush tropical garden right in Bushwick at this new outdoor restaurant.
Well it’s actually not brand new. The restaurant, named “Outerspace,” has opened in the backyard space of 99 Scott, a music, wedding and events venue. Similarly to the Brooklyn wedding venue that opened up their rooftop space to the public, without summer events planned they are pivoting to outdoor food service.
Outerspace offers a sweeping patio that can fit 126 people, according to Eater, with individual bamboo booths with picnic tables and large umbrellas for staying secluded with your party. Masks of course are required when not seated, and there are hand sanitizer dispensers on each booth.
And it’s full of one design element that has been helping many NYC restaurants with outdoor dining: plants. Apparently even at maximum capacity there are double the amount of plants as there are people! Along with differentiating seating areas and serving as social distancing markers, they definitely add a lot of character with a secret tropical garden feel.
They’re mainly serving American bites with Mexican influence, like roasted chicken with pasilla chili, market herbs, radish & mole verde, or corn with scallions, cashews, basil and chiles, as shared on their Instagram. They also have brick oven pizzas on the menu along with burgers, and everything is served on disposable dishware.
For drinks, you can sip on individual craft cocktails or pitchers for the table with options like watermelon mezcal margaritas and coconut rum slushees, according to Eater.
Outerspace currently open Thursday – Sunday from 5pm to 11pm, and is located at 99 Scott Avenue. You can make reservations, which are required after 7pm, on Resy here.
