Grab your paddles and life vests: Brooklyn Bridge Park kayaking, one of our favorite free activities in NYC, is gearing up for the 2025 season later this May.
The best part of a lakeside escape is available right in the city thanks to this complimentary park offering. Though you might not be paddling amongst mountains and greenery, we’d say taking in views of the NYC skyline and the Brooklyn Bridge are pretty epic. Ready to book a slot? We are, too. Here’s what you need to know.
Free Brooklyn Bridge Park kayaking information
Ready to make your way to the East River? The 2025 festivities will get underway beginning Wednesday, May 28th from the Pier 4 beach. Free paddle sessions are available on Wednesdays from 5-7pm, Thursdays from 5-7pm, and Saturdays from 10am-4pm. All levels are welcome to give the sport a try.
All those 14 and older are permitted to operate a singles kayak. Those under 18 must have a guardian present. Should you want to hit the water with your little ones, you’ll be pleased to know that there are family sessions on Sundays throughout the summer from 12 to 3:30pm.
How to book your kayaking session
Head over to the Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse website to secure your spot. You’ll be prompted to select a day, date, and the time of your session. Sessions open two weeks in advance.
You’ll be asked to sign a waiver, and upon venturing to the park, you’ll be required to wear a life vest before your slot. If you want to try your luck, walk-ins are accepted on the day of the event, but keep in mind, usually the slots are full, so don’t be too down in the dumps if you don’t catch an empty spot.
We’re very much looking forward to al fresco festivities this season, be it kayaking, free outdoor movies, performances, and beyond. Stay tuned as Brooklyn Bridge Park continues to unveil its 2025 lineup.
