Intrepid Free Friday Movie Nights are gearing up for a 2025 return, so make your way to the flight deck with your lawn chair and picnic basket.
One of NYC’s coolest museums also happens to take home the gold medal for best free activities once the warm weather rolls into town, which means you’ll have to mark your calendars accordingly. (Trust us!)
Since we’re consumed with all-things al fresco, allow us to get you up to speed with what’s happening on the aircraft carrier this summer.
Intrepid Free Friday Movie Nights 2025
As much as we love heading to NYC theaters, catching a flick amidst stunning aircraft, the Hudson River, and the NYC skyline is an experience for the books.
On select days beginning June 27th from 5-9pm, the Intrepid will offer Free Friday admission, which provides access to exclusive programming and the beloved movie series. To coincide with its new exhibit, “Mysteries From the Deep: Underwater Archaeology,” the museum will screen films dedicated to the ocean and her many mysteries.
Drumroll, please. The lineup is as follows:
- Friday, May 23rd: Top Gun (note: Free Friday programming begins in June; this screening requires museum admission)
- Friday, June 27th: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest
- Friday, July 25: The Abyss
- Friday, August 22nd: Atlantis: The Lost Empire
Before you make your way to the west side, make sure you know the ground rules. The movie availability is on a first-come, first-serve basis and doors open at 5pm and close at 8:30pm. The museum suggests arriving before 5, as the flight deck has limited capacity.
On site, there will be snacks for sale, but you’re permitted to bring bites of your own (but no alcohol) as well as lawn chairs and blankets. Be advised, once you’re onboard for the event, you are not permitted re-entry. July’s screening will coincide with Astronomy Night, so you’ll be able to get a full appreciation for both the land, sea, and beyond.
