Between Prospect Park’s free outdoor concerts, Bryant Park’s massive free outdoor yoga series, and Brooklyn Bridge Park’s free outdoor movies returning for the season, it feels like summer in NYC is already in full swing. And let’s be real–no amount of thunderstorms or back-to-back 90º days will keep us from getting outside this season.
But the free summer fun doesn’t end there.
Brooklyn Bridge Park just unveiled its 2026 summer calendar, and it includes the return of one of the city’s most coveted experiences: free kayaking on the East River.
So grab your paddle and get ready to hit the water–here’s everything to know about Brooklyn Bridge Park’s 2026 free kayaking program.
Brooklyn Bridge Park Free Kayaking 2026
In partnership with the Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse, the free public kayaking program officially kicks off on Wednesday, May 27 at Pier 2.
Whether you’re a seasoned pro or have never touched a paddle in your life, everyone is welcome. The program provides all the essentials–life vests, equipment, and basic instruction–so all you have to do is show up and enjoy the breeze.
The 2026 Weekly Schedule
- Wednesdays & Thursdays: 5pm – 7pm (perfect for a sunset paddle!)
- Saturdays: 10am – 3pm
- Sundays: 12 – 2:30pm (dedicated family kayaking)
How to Book Your Slot
To keep things moving and avoid those legendary NYC lines, advance registration is required.
- The Window: Registration opens exactly two weeks in advance for each date
- The Timing: Slots are for 20-minute sessions
- Where: You can secure your spot directly through the Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse website
For the younger New Yorkers, the Youth Kayak Program is also returning, offering specialized sessions for participants aged 11 to 18 to learn the ropes in a supportive environment.
