The New York City Economic Development Corporation is launching In Plain Sight, a free, yearlong public art exhibition right on the Sunset Park waterfront.
Opening on Thursday, June 4, 2026, this large-scale display brings together 12 Brooklyn-based artists to completely transform the historic Brooklyn Army Terminal campus into an open-air art destination.
What to expect at the waterfront campus
This isn’t your typical quiet gallery space. Visitors will encounter striking artwork scattered across the entire sprawling, industrial campus.

The exhibition features a mix of sculptures, murals, indoor installations, and interactive works. You will find pieces installed in unexpected locations, from decommissioned train cars and outdoor waterfront plazas to historic industrial buildings overlooking New York Harbor.
Curated by Debra Simon Art Consulting, the works explore themes of industry, ecology, and labor.
You’ll see pieces from a diverse group of global artists representing Sunset Park’s rich immigrant communities. This includes creators originally from Japan, China, India, and Korea.
Connecting with Brooklyn’s maker history
What makes this installation truly special is how deeply it ties into the local neighborhood.
Several of the participating artists created their pieces using materials sourced directly from tenants and makerspaces right inside the Brooklyn Army Terminal.
This directly connects the contemporary art back to the site’s rich, ongoing legacy. Built during World War I, the terminal is now home to over 100 businesses employing 3,500 New Yorkers.

The yearlong event will also coincide with a wider lineup of seasonal waterfront programming, making it an ideal excuse to skip the traditional indoor museums and head outside to explore a new side of the borough.
More than just art
The yearlong event also coincides with a wider lineup of seasonal waterfront programming. NYCEDC recently unveiled Summer at the Terminal, a 59-acre festival of live performances, outdoor film screenings, food markets, and family-friendly events.
It is the absolute perfect excuse to skip the traditional indoor museums and explore a completely different side of the borough.
