Even after pandemic fears, the Bronx Zoo is bringing back their beloved tradition of adorning the zoo with stunning holiday lights.
Covering several acres of the zoo, this will be only the second time since 2007 that these dazzling lights will be on display! This year the Holiday Lights will be “bigger, better, and greener than ever,” with five different animal lantern safaris opening November 17.
The LED displays will illuminate the park with animal lanterns, animated sculptures, and colorful designs. Going along with zoo’s natural wildlife “theme” you’ll find all sorts stunning animals—from marine ecosystems to apex predators—lit up in the night sky, creating a beautifully illuminated safari to explore.
This year you’ll find five lantern safaris, spread out throughout the park each showcase a different wildlife region. In Africa you’ll see giraffes, cheetahs, zebras, lions, lemurs, and gorillas; in Asia, glittering rhinos, tigers, and snow leopards; in Latin America, illuminated macaws, jaguar, crocodile and new flamingos; in North America, polar bear, caribou, wolves, sea lion, and new bison; and last but not least, an ocean section featuring penguins, sea turtles, dolphins, sharks, corals, sea lions, and new spotted rays and a nurse shark.
The Bronx Zoo’s Holiday Lights will be on display as of Friday, November 17. Tickets are required and must be reserved in advance, and social distancing will be in place for all activities.
Along with Holiday Lights, the zoo will also host a variety of holiday-inspired activities like ice carving, costumed characters, bird meet & greets, wildlife theater, stilt walkers, and plenty of seasonal foods and souvenirs to enjoy (like hot cocoa and adorable holiday gifts!).
