And so the trend of turning throwback movies into musicals continues…this time with the 1983 Chevy Chase comedy National Lampoon’s Vacation.
The show, named “Broadway Vacation, The Musical,” will be making its theatrical debut at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle this coming fall (the 2020-2021 season). There hasn’t been word yet of when it will make its way to New York City, but the Mrs. Doubtfire musical also played the 5th Avenue Theatre before it premieres in NYC later this spring.
The book, music, and lyrics are by David Rossmer and Steve Rosen (who created and starred in the off-Broadway hit The Other Josh Cohen), and the choreography is by Donna Feore. Ken Davenport, who also worked on Kinky Boots and Spring Awakening, is a producer.
In a previous announcement, they said the Griswolds are taking “a trip to New York that they will never forget.”
We’re sure they’re packing up the station wagon now!
