Broadway is finally returning!
Though full productions with audiences likely won’t return until September (but the city is making plans!), there will be a performance on Broadway stages once again this Saturday, April 3.
It’s part of New York Pops Up, the state’s program that has been bringing pop-up performances right to the streets of NYC, from music to comedy to theater.
The program has already brought surprise performances like Patti Smith at the Brooklyn Museum, Amy Schumer in Astoria Park, , and renowned trumpeters in Central Park. Still, part of the nature of NY Pops Up is that it’s kept under wraps, so as not to draw crowds to the performances. So, they haven’t revealed too many details for this weekend, keeping it simple in the announcement below:
In the caption they reveal that it will be a special performance for essential workers, put on along with The Actors Fund and Broadway Cares.
Though it doesn’t seem like New Yorkers can catch it in person (as of yet), it will be streamed on their IG Live. Either way, it’s history in the making!
