One brewery is looking to fill a “Chief Hiking Officer” position that will be paid $20,000, plus beer (of course) and equipment to hike the 2,200-mile Appalachian Trail.
Devils Backbone Brewery, located in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia, is looking for a “Chief Hiking Officer” to hike the famous trail and enjoy some brews along the way in Spring 2021. The Appalachian Trail goes from Georgia to Maine, winding through many state parks in New York including Bear Mountain State Park and Harriman State Park.
The brewery itself is located right off the trail at mile marker 842 and is often frequented by hikers.
“That’s right: we’re going to pay someone to hike the Appalachian Trail in 2021,” they shared on their website. “We’ll outfit our CHO with gear, fly ‘em to the trail head, and throw some big ol’ beer parties along the way. Plus, there’s a $20k stipend.”
Of course, they said you really have to love hiking (and beer). Like really love them, because it takes five to seven months to complete the trail and of course you’ll be sleeping and living in nature every day with only the camping gear you can carry. They’ll also ask you to document your experience on social media.
Sound like your dream job? All you have to do is submit a 1-minute video entry by July 31. The contest is open to all states where the brewery sells its beer, including New York along with DC, DE, GA, IN, KY, MD, NC, NJ, OH, PA, SC, TN, VA and WVA.
Cheers to that!
