Thoughts of the future often involve flying cars and even possibly living underwater, but it’s looking to us like NYC’s future is all about the robots.
We were a little flabbergasted to say the least when we found out a chicken-frying robot was making its way to NYC, and now NYC is home to a robot barista!
Botbar Coffee, a robot-run coffee shop, recently teased Brooklynites with a future arrival, and they’re now serving drinks ranging from $3 for an espresso to $5 for a cold brew, and typical, go-to café bites like croissants and pastries, as reported by Eater.
The coffee shop features a two-armed robot barista pre-programmed to create beverages on demand, including coffee drinks, boba teas, and cocktails.
To order, guests simply enter their order into touchpad, and the bot then receives the information and whips up the drink with consistent results due to “precise programming.”
And though the bot can serve 50 cups of coffee per hour, it isn’t here just to serve drinks–when it isn’t busy working it can dance!
Robot workers seem to be growing in popularity due to claims that they’re high-performing, precise and consistent, and reliable considering sick days are non-existent when it comes to them.
According to Botbar’s website, robot employees work to overcome today’s service challenges, including:
- Labor shortages
- Rising labor costs
- High turnover rates with staff
- Inconsistent, slow performance
And, while we’re on the subject, we’re not sure whether or not human baristas will also work at Botbar, but according to their tagline, “Humans can be unpredictable; let the robot make your coffee.”
So, it looks like we’ll have to wait and see!
NYC’s Botbar, located at 666 Manhattan Avenue in Greenpoint, is the company’s first location, as well as the city’s first coffee shop of its kind.
