Joining the ongoing list of new or upcoming productions to look forward to, such as the Dolly Parton musical and Cult Of Love, comes BOOP! The Musical.
With performances starting March 11th, before officially opening on April 5th, at the Broadhurst Theatre, BOOP! The Musical will follow Betty Boop as she dreams of not only leaving her black-and-white world behind, but stardom too, to explore an ordinary day full of love, color and music in NYC.
BOOP! The Musical originally ran in Chicago during 2023. The New York iteration will feature the complete principal cast from Chicago, including Jasmine Amy Rogers returning as Betty. Tony award winner, Jerry Mitchell, will again be directing and choreographing the production, with music by David Foster, lyrics from Susan Birkenhead, and a book by Bob Martin. You can explore the full cast online.
Betty Boop’s cartoon character first came about in the 1930s in the show Dizzy Dishes. There she sang as an anthropomorphic French poodle alongside another dog character, Bimbo. It wasn’t until a few years after that she evolved into the full human character she’s known as today.
Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased on the Boop! The Musical website. Plus, you can hear a first listen of Rogers singing “Where I Wanna Be,” a number from the musical, now.
