September 11, 2024 marks the 23rd anniversary of the devastating 2001 attacks. From the annual “Tribute in Light” to the September 11, 2001 Commemoration and all other ways New York is remembering 9/11, the President, Vice President and former President Trump made appearances in NYC as well.
Harris was already on the East Coast for last night’s presidential debate in Philadelphia, and President Biden has joined her today in New York City. Biden had spent last year’s anniversary on an Alaskan military base after making a stop at all three sites in 2021. Meanwhile, Harris has observed the anniversary in NYC for the past two years.
“You will see the president and vice president next week together as they mourn the thousands of lives that were lost on that day and also the first responders who obviously put their lives on the line to protect Americans on that day,” shared White House press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre ahead of the anniversary.
Local political leaders, Governor Kathy Hochcul and Mayor Eric Adams, were also in attendance for this morning’s events, in addition to former President and NYC native, Donald Trump.
The NYPD declared road closures in downtown Manhattan until 10:30 am this morning. However, the ceremony is supposed to run until 1pm.
As for subway disruptions, the 1 train will skip WTC-Cortlandt station in both directions between 12:45 a.m. and 3 p.m. today, according to the MTA.
