Only a 2.5 hour drive from NYC, Hunter Mountain is one of the best skiing locations near the city. Once you weave through the stunning Catskill Mountains, you’ll be greeted to 67 trails (ranging in expertise), a Bubly Tubing Park, a state-of-the-art learning center, a children’s area, a world class lodge and dining, plus so much more! 2. Windham Mountain Club — Windham, NY

Windham Mountain Club is another Catskills operation that is open for the 2024-25 season! With 54 trails, slopeslide lodging, snow tubing, a spa, and more…this place is a ski or snowboarder’s paradise! This semi-private community offers seasonal memberships for frequent flyers, or you can opt day passes, or two-day bookings during peak weekends! 3. Whiteface Mountain — Lake Placid, NY

Although Whiteface is a little further away from NYC than the rest on this list, it’s still worth the journey for any skier! It’s located in the Adirondack Mountains near Lake Placid, NY and one of the most notable winter sports spots in New York. It’s known for its challenging 94 downhill courses, including many that were used in the 1980 Winter Olympics! Plus, there’s also gondola rides and ski/snowboard lessons for less-seasoned vets. 4. Mount Snow — West Dover, VT

Live out your après ski dreams at Mount Snow in Vermont, where over 100 acres of slopes, 4 mountain faces, and 85 trails await to be shredded! Since 1954, this has been one of the very first ski resorts on the East Coast…building its reputation for its extensive trail system and excellent snow conditions. It’s perfect for a weekend getaway, especially since there’s so much more to do on the resort…like nightlife at the Snowbarn, a relaxing Naturespa, 19 different dining options, and more! 5. Belleayre Mountain — Highmount, NY

With 61 trails, 59 acres, and 7 miles of open trails, Bellayre Mountain is one of the more low-key and budget friendly Catskill Mountain options. It’s located on the border of Delaware and Ulster Counties in Highmount, NY and is welcoming for those of all skill levels! Their diverse range of accommodations are perfect for any sized trip, and the activities offered (like snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and more) are perfect for all ages. 6. Mountain Creek — Vernon Township, NJ

This all-season resort in Vernon Township, New Jersey is just a short trip outside NYC, and makes for one of our favorite winter day trips! It’s the state’s largest ski and snowboard area with 4 mountain peaks and 46 trails, as well as tons of other activities like night skiing, a snowtubing park, an Alpine Mountain Coaster, and more! 7. Camelback Resort — Tannersville, PA

Escape to the Poconos in Pennsylvania at Camelback Resort, which is home to 49 ski trails, 166 acres of slops, and the 2nd biggest snow tubing park! It’s right outside NYC in Tannersville, PA and is a perfect trip for families, seasoned vets and everyone in between! If you’re not practicing your X Game tricks thanks to their 50-square-foot airbag, try some of the other resort offerings like an indoor water park, a Winter Village (during holiday season), laser tag, rock climbing, and so much more! 8. Plattekill Mountain — Roxbury, NY

Plattekill Mountain is a nice tucked away option that is more laid-back and less crowded! With 40 trails to choose from, Plattekill’s terrain is one of the most unique on this list, making for hours of fun and challenge! They have season passes available for frequent skiers, or you can buy single lift tickets starting at $69 per person. 9. Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort — Hancock, MA

Just over the Massachusetts border lies Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort, a spot with 45 trails, 9 lifts, and 9 black diamonds (6 black, and 3 double black). It’s one of the largest ski resorts in New England, and features views of the soft peaks of Jericho Valley. Alongside normal skiing, you can do night skiing, enjoy winter dining, and take lessons. 10. Shawnee Mountain Ski Area — East Stroudsburg, PA

This family-friendly getaway nestled in the picturesque Poconos dates back to 1975, and still is one of the best places to ski near NYC today! Mohawk Mountain Ski Area is Connecticut’s largest skiing area, thanks to the 27 different trails (and 16 night trails) that are available to shred. It’s a perfect spot for skiers of all ages to visit, ranging from beginner’s classes to a mega 650-foot drop on one of the trails! They also have snow tubing and snowshoeing available for non-skiers! 12. Roundtop Mountain Resort — Lewisberry, PA

This year marks Roundop Mountain Resort’s 60th season of incredible ski slopes, once again opening up their 21 trails, 9 lifts, and two terrain parks to skiers this year. 13. Catamount Mountain Resort — Hillsdale, NY

Head to Catamount Mountain Resort, just 2.5 hours from NYC, and explore 44 ski trails with 1,000 feet of vertical drop! This ski resort is actually located on the New York-Massachusetts border, allowing skiers to weave through state lines as they make the way down the mountain! We highly recommend this spot during the warmer months too, since it’s home to the country’s longest dual zipline and an insane aerial adventure park.
