You may be thinking: “Doesn’t that already exist here?” Well, kind of.
Although places like Tipsy Scoop have created booze-infused ice creams using beer in the past, it’s technically not legal…yet. However, Governor Andrew Cuomo was asked by the State Senate this week to sign a bill that would make beer and hard-cider ice cream legal.
The new legislation is intended to help craft brewers and farms that are growing throughout New York. A similar bill was passed in 2008 making wine ice cream legal, and last year it became legal to sell the wine ice cream from smaller, snack-sized containers. Similarly, that legislation was aimed at helping New York’s agriculture.
Under this new bill, the beer-infused ice cream would need proper labels and warning statements and the ABV would be limited to 5 percent.
