People awoke Thursday morning to find service outages across main cellphone providers in the U.S., including AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile. Though it’s common to reach for your phone in the first few moments you wake up, many confused Americans weren’t able to do their typical start of the day internet surfing, calling or texting.
The cellphone outages are primarily affecting AT&T customers, with others reporting similar outages for Verizon and T-Mobile. According to tracking site DownDetector, AT&T users first saw a spike in outages beginning at 4:27am with 32,411 outage reports. The problem escalated to 73,894 reported outages at 8:12am.
“Some of our customers are experiencing wireless service interruptions this morning. We are working urgently to restore service to them,” said AT&T in a statement. “We encourage the use of Wi-Fi calling until service is restored.”
As of now, AT&T has not released the cause of the nationwide cellphone outage nor addressed the issue on their official social media accounts as of 9am. However, AT&T Help did share a statement to X: “Thank you for reaching us. We understand how important it is to enjoy the most of our services. I would like to thank you for your patience while our systems are undergoing planned maintenance/being optimized for performance. ^DanielG”
