Arthur & Sons has been paying homage to classic red sauce eateries since first opening in the West Village in June 2022, and now they’re bringing social club vibes into the mix!
Arthur & Sons Italian American Club is the newest venture from third generation, Michelin starred, Italian American chef, restaurateur, and cookbook author Joe Isidori. Claiming a stake next door to Arthur & Sons, the bar and restaurant gives off old school Italian American tavern vibes in a social club setting.
The new eatery blends the retro charm of old-school Italian American culture with a contemporary edge, serving comforting pastas, specialty sandwiches, and, of course, Sunday sauce.
Menu highlights include macaroni dishes such as Rigatoni alla Nonna, a version of Joe’s spicy alla vodka, Fusilli alla Limone, Spaghetti and Meatballs, and alll the parms (chicken, eggplant, and meatball options, all served either as a platter or hero).
As for the drinks, guests will feel like they’ve been swept away on a nostalgic journey back to the New York of the ’50s and ’60s.
That’s to say the drink menu includes old school classics such as the Scorpion Bowl, made with rum, brandy, amaretto, lemon, and orange, and the Blue Hawaiian, made with rum, walnut, coconut, pineapple, and orange.
For those seeking classic flavors, however, they can find those with a modern twist, such as through the Cosmo Diavolo made with spiced tamarind vodka, Pallini Limoncello, and cranberry and the Hazelnut Old Fashioned made with bourbon, Frangelico, bitters, cherry, and orange.
The 800-square-foot space seats 35-40 guests and accommodates 12 at the bar. A lively blend of the hip hop and Sinatra vibes that reflect Isidori’s memories of growing up cooking in his father’s restaurants are woven throughout the space, featuring dark tones, red lights, a touch of graffiti, and jars filled with poker chips and decks of playing cards throughout.
Joe Isidori stated:
I created the Club to be a companion to Arthur & Sons next door, offering a more casual setting where people can explore our expanded cocktail menu while grabbing a great bite to eat. I wanted to evoke the nostalgic charm of New York Italian American culture in the style of a social club – a joint where the vibe is comfortable and exciting, and the classic menu is satisfying and delicious.
