April (snow) showers? Don’t discount the possibility.
This weekend will be colder than Siberia, and we already had a freeze warning earlier in the week, so it’s not terribly shocking that this abnormal April weather could lead to a few light flurries here and there.
While we might be reaching for the black puffer again (*sigh*) that doesn’t necessarily mean we need to go find the sled.
Will it snow in April in NYC?
NYC, we have some good news and some bad news: This weekend is going to be a largely rainy one with 90% chance of precipitation on both Saturday and Sunday and temperatures remaining in the mid to upper 40s. (You know what they say about April showers…)
However, our tristate neighbors are the ones who might need to concern themselves with flurries. According to NBC News, those in the Hudson Valley, Connecticut, and Northern New Jersey and Pennsylvania are the ones who could possibly see snow on the following two occasions: late Thursday night into Friday morning and late Friday night into Saturday morning, so those end-of-the-week work commutes could get messy. (Prepare accordingly.)
In some uplifting news for those who are anxious for spring: a heavy sun won’t allow anything to stick. Phew! It looks like Mother Nature might not be backtracking after all. And according to The Weather Channel’s 10-day forecast, next week NYC will experience partly cloudy conditions and temperatures in the low to mid 60s, dipping into the high 50s on Wednesday the 16th and Thursday the 17th.
It might feel like we’re lightyears away, but it seems spring is trying very hard to make a statement. Fingers crossed we’ll be bouncing to and from tulip festivals and farmers markets with our t-shirts in the not-too-distant future. Until then: grab that puffer coat.
