Looking for a spring getaway but not sure where to go? Perusing Amtrak’s various train routes is always a great way to start, and we think a quick trip to Canada might be in your near future.
Amtrak’s Adirondack line announced the resumption of service from NYC to Montreal last April and is continuing to service passengers this year daily. Passengers get to ride through the breathtaking Hudson Valley up to Canada after years of closure.
“The cultural riches and natural beauty along the Adirondack train route amount to an experience that is unlike anything else in the world, and it highlights the importance of this service – making it easy and fun for travelers to be able to enjoy these unique treasures,” said New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez.
The train leaves in the morning from Moynihan Train Hall on a 10 hour journey to arrive in Montreal by nightfall. The train has full café service, spacious seating and onboard WiFi.
Since the route travels to an international destination, passengers will be subject to standard entry documents and possibly other additional entry requirements from the US and Canada.
“Whether you’re experiencing the greatness of New York City, the culture of Montreal or the beauty of the Hudson Valley and Lake Champlain region, the return of the Adirondack provides customers with a reliable, relaxing and sustainable way to travel,” said Amtrak President Roger Harris. “Thanks to the strong support and advocacy of Senators Schumer and Gillibrand, Congresswoman Stefanik and our partners at NYSDOT, VIA Rail and the Federal Railroad Administration, we’re proud to restore service to one of the most popular trains in the Northeast.”
Tickets are already available for purchase on the Amtrak website and app.
