If you’re looking for a quick city getaway, how does a trip to D.C. for just $20 sound? Pretty damn good, no? We think so!
Amtrak recently announced their new, ultra-low ‘Night Owl Fares’ between NYC and D.C., and the prices are simply unbeatable. Though you’ll be traveling in the late hours of the night or early hours of the morning (trains depart between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.), passengers can book trips for prices between $5-$20.
The Night Owl Fares aren’t limited to D.C. but extend across coach tickets on Northeast Regional and other select routes, connecting cities including New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C. Some trains even travel to Newark, making your next airport excursion that much easier.
According to the website, sample one-way fares can be seen below:
Onboard, passengers will be privy to large leather seats, free WiFi, power outlets, up to four bags free, and quiet car access. Amtrak notes that the Moynihan Train Hall remains closed between the hours of 1am and 5am daily, so riders must plan to depart or arrive at Penn Station during those hours.
Explore the Night Owl Fares for yourself on the Amtrak website.

Looking for something a little further than D.C.? How about Montreal? Amtrak just restored Adirondack service after three years of closure so New Yorkers can travel to Montreal via train in 10 hours.
