Another multi-million dollar renovation plan will most likely affect your summer travel plans.
According to the New York Post, Amtrak is preparing for another series of reconstruction projects that will most likely result in the “Summer of Hell, part two.”
Last year’s “Summer of Hell” was a result of an eight week emergency repair project to the tracks. This year is a similar case. From May 26th until September 4th, Amtrak is planning to repair the Empire Service, Ethan Allen Express, Adirondack and Maple Leaf lines while also working towards updating mechanical and electrical equipment that was damaged during Hurricane Sandy. This will result in a rerouting of these lines from Penn Station to Grand Central.
Although the $50 million project schedule hasn’t been finalized yet, Amtrak officials are confident that this years project won’t be as disruptive as the last.
