Alamo Drafthouse Cinema will begin construction on their first Manhattan location next month.
The first Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Manhattan has been in talks for six years now, and is finally happening! The dine-in theater is currently set to be a 12-screen multiplex taking up the second and third basement levels of 28 Liberty in FiDi.
Typical to the Alamo franchise, this location will of course feature a full-service restaurant bringing you cocktails, food, and delicious boozy shakes before, after, or during the show. They have over 30 beers on tap as well as handcrafted cocktails, soft drinks, and milkshakes. Their multi-course menu also includes salads, burgers, fried pickles, pizzas, sweet desserts, and popcorn (because it’s still a movie theater at the end of the day).
Alamo’s Manhattan location will a unique element to it that separates it from the Downtown Brooklyn location—a Video Vortex bar. Video Vortex is a video store-meets-bar concept that originally began in the chain’s Raleigh, North Carolina location but will now make its NYC debut. The bar will feature old-school movies that are difficult to find on streaming services and offer free rental on them. It’ll be decorated to resemble an old video store but will also feature plenty of local beers.
In addition to this fun new element, the theater will have reclining seats, a Sony 4K laser projection, 35mm changeover projection, and immersive surround sound. It is currently planned to open in 2019.
