Summer travel often comes with a hefty price tag (and equally hefty luggage), so learning that the AirTrain to JFK is reducing its fare is welcome news. Any little bit helps!
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey predicts summer 2025 to be another record-breaking year with up to 18.3 million travelers. And to accommodate for this influx, as well as extensive airport construction, changes are taking place.
“The discounted AirTrain fare is one of a multitude of steps we’re taking to move passengers to and from JFK as quickly and reliably as possible,” Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole said in a statement. “Yes, there will be some temporary inconvenience. But it’s all part of building an airport our region can be proud of — for decades to come.”
Here’s what you need to know before boarding.
AirTrain to JFK fare reduction
Single fare rides will be reduced by 50% from June 30th to Labor Day, making the total price $4.25. Keep in mind that this reduced rate applies to both the Jamaica and Howard Beach stations.
“Once again, we are encouraging travelers to use public transit to reach JFK International this summer when we expect a record number of passengers to use the airport while we are also at the peak of construction, including extensive work on the roadways as we build a whole new world-class JFK,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton.
While yes, the Uber JFK Shuttle is a convenient, wallet-friendly way to get to the airport with a $25 flat rate, do keep in mind that rideshares are being diverted from the main entrance of various terminals, so the typical drop-off might be a bit more complicated.
No matter how you decide to get to the airport, there’s no doubt that the $19 billion construction is going to cause a bit of confusion. (Hence why we’re one of the most congested airports for summer travel in the U.S.)

Wishing you a fun, safe summer of great adventures!
