With 10 distinct regions, a six-million-acre mountain range, and lush wilderness, the Upstate destination the perfect bucolic retreat for urbanites. It’s home to the most scenic small towns in the country, breathtaking waterfalls, and gorgeous hiking opportunities.
If you’re craving a little time in Mother Nature, consider visiting New York’s trendiest destination this summer. Here are a few things we’re looking forward to exploring in the region this season.
The Adirondack Railroad
All aboard: The Adirondack Railroad is one of the most scenic ways to get around the area. Not only will you encounter gorgeous wilderness, but themed rides are available for your enjoyment, including a beer and wine train series, a round-trip tea time, and The Utica to Old Forge Layover trip, passing through forests, rivers, streams, and culminating in an afternoon around the small town.
St. Regis Falls
A hamlet overlooking the St. Regis River, St. Regis Falls is a time capsule for old-town charm and is an excellent place for hiking. The former lodging town boasts unbeatable views of the Adirondack High Peaks, so make sure you have space in your camera roll.
Middle Saranac Lake Beach
There’s something about secretive swimming holes that makes a vacation all the more exciting. Enter Middle Saranac Lake Beach, which visitors can access by land or sea. The gorgeous sand and shallow water make this a calm, relaxing respite — especially if there are kiddos in tow.
Adirondack Adventure Center
The thrill-seekers among us will find plenty to enjoy at the Adirondack Adventure Center: white water rafting, a treetop zipline course, and the more relaxing lazy river tubing if you need a breather in between activities.
The Wild Center
Considered one of the best science museums in the country, The Wild Center is a 115-acre space where trails, riverside views, and a private pond dazzle visitors of all ages. From live animal encounters to climate-focused exhibits, The Wild Center has no shortage of areas to explore.
Dancing Grain Farm Brewery
Considered a “field-to-glass” operation, Dancing Grain Farm Brewery with plenty on tap: 100% New York State–grown ingredients, great beer, and open fields with live music, flower fests, and farm tours.
The Adirondack Balloon Festival
Close out the summer with this aerial-focused tradition. The Adirondack Balloon Festival, taking place from September 18th to 21st, features Instagram eye candy with hot air balloon takeoffs, live performances, food vendors, and more.
