Will New York City finally get a picture-perfect, snow covered White Christmas this year? The Old Farmer’s Almanac has released its predictions for the weather during the holiday season and what regions in the U.S. and Canada have the best chances for a White Christmas.
Published on October 30, the annual forecast maps out which parts of the United States and Canada can expect at least an inch of snow on the ground come Christmas morning. And while the Almanac is predicting a White Christmas for the Northeast, New Yorkers may want to take a closer look at the fine print.
What is considered a ‘White Christmas’?
As per the National Weather Service,
A white Christmas is officially defined as having at least 1 inch of snow on the ground at 7 AM local time Christmas Day.
Snowflakes don’t even need to be falling all over town on Christmas Day. There just needs to be snow on the ground already.
What is The Old Farmer’s Almanac predicting for Christmas 2026?
According to the publication’s latest forecast, the Northeast, Intermountain and Alaska regions are expected to experience a White Christmas. And since the Northeast usually includes the Tri-State area, that means NYC is getting a snow-filled Christmas, right? Cue Mariah Carey and start decorating those sleigh bells? Not so fast. There’s a little bit of a holiday plot twist for New Yorkers…
New York City actually falls within the Atlantic Corridor region of The Old Farmer’s Almanac map, which is currently predicted to miss out on all the snowflake fun this Christmas. New York City joins a list of regions that also won’t be experiencing a White Christmas either. Take a look below for the full forecast:
- Northeast: A White Christmas

So, will NYC see any snow this Christmas?
While The Old Farmer’s Almanac is currently predicting no snow for the Atlantic Corridor, that doesn’t fully rule out the exciting opportunity of snow come Christmas morning.
This forecast is an early long-range prediction, and weather predictions can easily change the closer we get to December and the rest of the holiday season.
So for now… New Yorkers may want to take those snow boots out of storage just in case!
