Fordham University’s Rose Hill campus in the Bronx is a gorgeous institution, but its historic walls hold dark secrets.
Students and staff report unexplained noises, mysterious cigar smoke, and terrifying ghost sightings across the grounds.
Vice President Mike Treratola, who previously led campus ghost tours, knows firsthand how much paranormal activity surrounds these buildings.
‘The Exorcist’ and the haunted morgue
If the campus feels eerily familiar, that is because portions of the 1973 horror classic ‘The Exorcist’ were filmed in Keating and Hughes Halls.
Hughes Hall was originally a boarding school where students now report seeing the apparition of a little boy and hearing a bouncing ball.
Even creepier is Finlay Hall, which previously housed the university’s medical school.

Cadavers were once stored and dissected in the basement, and current student residents report waking up to the sensation of being grabbed, having their toes tugged, or seeing ghostly men in white coats staring down at them.
Phantom pranks and vanishing tunnels
The paranormal encounters extend to the arts and residence halls. At Collins Auditorium, the home of the campus theater built over a cemetery, performers hear invisible people playing on the catwalks and experience friendly pranks before opening night.

Over at Martyr’s Court, students report hearing soft crying in the bathrooms and seeing a blonde girl in the showers.
Below ground, a network of emergency escape tunnels built by the Jesuits connects the original buildings, and legends say that students who go searching for them simply disappear.
