The sun will come out in 2027.
A brand-new revival of the musical “Annie” will open on Broadway in fall 2027. This highly anticipated production perfectly times up with the classic show’s 50th anniversary.
A fresh take on a New York classic
Tony Award-winning director Sam Pinkleton will lead the new production. You likely know his recent hit work from “Oh, Mary!” and “The Rocky Horror Show.”
The musical follows a gutsy young orphan trying to escape the evil Miss Hannigan. She eventually finds a life of luxury with billionaire Daddy Warbucks, changing both of their lives forever.
“Annie is everything I love about New York City: gutsy, fearless, and funny as hell,” Pinkleton shared in a statement. He added that the creative team plans to approach the legendary show with absolute “joy and abandon.”

Celebrating a 50-year legacy
The original production first hit the Broadway stage in 1977. It introduced the world to iconic musical theater anthems like “Tomorrow” and “It’s the Hard-Knock Life.” It quickly became a Best Musical Tony winner and inspired multiple film adaptations.
This 2027 run will mark the musical’s fourth official outing on Broadway. It follows previous successful stagings in 1997 and 2012.
The upcoming revival features the original beloved book by Thomas Meehan. It also highlights the unforgettable music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin.
The Meehan family noted that the show is a true New York story at its core. “This isn’t a revival; it’s a homecoming,” they stated.
