In honor of Earth Day, New York City is going car free (for a few hours at least).
On April 21st, (the day before Earth Day), from 9am to 3pm, Broadway between 47th and 26th streets will be closed off to cars. This city initiative is now on its third year and has had relative success in the past.
New Yorkers will have the chance to walk down what is normally one of the cities most highly populated streets, without cars. Throughout the 30 block route there will be a series of performances taking place hosted by nonprofit and environmental groups. The idea is to promote activism and provide education about climate change. Because that’s what 4/20 is all about, isn’t it?
